Barbara is a poet and watercolor artist who expresses her contemplative Christian spirituality through her art. She is inspired by reading God's Word, praying, and listening for His guidance. Her "inner visions" are the poems she hears forming within. The paintings that emerge from contemplating her favorite mountain and desert vistas and praying as she paints. She often combines these inspirations in her unique art form: "poem-paintings". It is her hope that through her art others will experience God's peace, healing, and love, that they be drawn more deeply into an intimate relationship with the Lord.

Barbara has been writing for over forty years and has published over fifteen books, including prayer journals. She has created numerous "poem-paintings" which appear in her books along with other poetry, journaling and scripture. Individual "poem paintings" are also available in limited edition prints.

For over twenty years Barbara traveled throughout the southwest and northwest doing art shows and participating in Christian retreats and conferences. Her education and career in psychology, spiritual direction, and Christian counseling and her own recovery journey are reflected in her art ministry. It was during a contemplative prayer retreat in 1985 that she heard the Lord tell her to start painting. She began with learning the wet-on-wet watercolor technique, letting colors blend and flow on her blank wet paper. During her travels, she draws on site the simple contours of mountains and other scenes, which she paints later in her studio or motorhome. She considers the Holy Spirit her best teacher, in art and in life.
